Tranexamic Acid - All You Need To Know!

The world of beauty is expanding with new terms, routines, ingredients, and more getting added consistently. Tranexamic is perhaps a newbie in the list of ‘It’ skincare trends. There’s a lot of hype around this friendly activity that has shown proven results when it comes to scars and hyperpigmentation reduction.

Introduction to Tranexamic Acid

Tranexamic Acid is a powerful ingredient that is commonly used for treating excessive blood loss – after surgery, reducing vaginal bleeding after delivery, blood loss from injury, or heavy menstruation bleeding.

It was observed that there was an improvement in skin discoloration and scarring reduction, post tranexamic acid treatment. Thereafter, the beauty industry adapted this potent ingredient in its skincare formulations.

Benefits of Tranexamic Acid

Scar reduction: Tranexamic Acid inhibits the synthesis of tyrosinase which is an enzyme found in melanocytes to produce melanin. Melanin is the skin that causes skin darkening, scars, dark spots, etc. Lower the melanin, lesser dark spots.

Reverses Sun damage: Due to Tranexamic acid’s melanin inhibiting property, it helps in reducing damage caused by the sun. Tranexamic acid is especially helpful in lowering the appearance of melasma, PIE, PIH, & scars.

Suitable for all skin types: One of the good things about Tranexamic acid is that it is suitable for almost all skin types. However, a patch test is highly recommended before using it directly on your skin.

Pairs well with other actives: Bad news is it is not powerful enough on its own. But what makes it even more amazing is that Tranexamic acid enhances the performance of other actives. Especially, Kojic Acid pairs well with the Tranexamic acid and works in harmony to eliminate blemishes from the skin within 3 weeks. It can be paired with retinol, vitamin C, or even a chemical peel.

How to use Tranexamic Acid

  1. PM Routine: Although Tranexamic acid is not an exfoliating acid, it is recommended to use at night.
  2. Application: After cleansing and toning your face, take 2-3 drops of Sanfe Promise 3% Tranexamic Face Serum Shots on your fingertips. Gently massage this into your skin in a circular motion. Spread the serum evenly on your face and let it absorb.
  3. Sun Protect: While using any actives/acids, it is absolutely imperative to use a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30. Similarly, do follow up with sunscreen the next day to protect your skin.
